No connection capacity? Energy storage instead of a connection upgrade

Short answer

An energy storage system lets a site draw constant power from the grid and cover peaks from its own capacity. A 2 MWh installation raises available peak power by 1 MW without changing the connection conditions.

  • Delivery in 4–6 months instead of a multi-year grid upgrade
  • No change to the connection agreement when operating within contracted capacity
  • Side benefit: arbitrage and capacity charge reduction

The problem: refusal or insufficient connection capacity

In many MV grid areas, available connection capacity is already exhausted. The investment then waits for a DSO grid upgrade, blocking the schedule and revenue.

How storage replaces a grid upgrade

The system operates in a power-limiting mode: grid draw never exceeds the contracted value, with the difference covered by the storage system. From the DSO's perspective, the site's load profile is flat and requires no new connection conditions.
