VoltGrid BESS1 MWh — 1000+ MWh

Scale 200–1000+ MWh

1000 MWh Energy Storage — Utility-Scale Projects

Short answer

We deliver 1000 MWh projects as 150–200 × 20ft containers arranged in 50 MWh blocks, with 250 MW of power in a 4h configuration and an HV 110 kV or 220 kV connection. The site requires 12–18 ha, and deliveries are spread over 18–24 months.

  • 150–200 × 20ft containers in 50 MWh blocks
  • 125–250 MW
  • 0.25C (4h), optionally 0.125C (8h)

Who this scale is for

  • A utility building its own storage assets
  • A tender consortium requiring volume references
  • A project-finance fund with a supplier bankability requirement

Configuration, site and grid connection

Number of containers150–200 × 20ft containers in 50 MWh blocks
System power125–250 MW
C-rate0.25C (4h), optionally 0.125C (8h)
Land footprint12–18 ha
Voltage levelHV 110 kV or 220 kV, dedicated substation
Indicative CAPEXPLN 620–780 million for 250 MW / 1000 MWh
Delivery schedule30–48 months, delivered in 8–12 batches

Revenue models realistic for this scale

  • Long-term capacity agreement (up to 17 years for new units)
  • Tolling with a guaranteed fee per MW of available capacity
  • aFRR ancillary services and capacity reserve for the TSO (PSE)

Construction phasing and delivery schedule

We split the project into 50 MWh blocks commissioned independently. Deliveries are spread across 8–12 batches within an 18–24 month window, and the first block usually reaches COD 14–18 months before overall completion.

Project finance and bankability requirements

The structure includes a special-purpose vehicle, debt with a 10–15 year tenor and a minimum DSCR of 1.25. The bank expects contracted revenue for at least 10 years plus an independent technical advisor's report.

Performance guarantees and the LTSA

A 10-year capacity guarantee at a 70% SOH threshold, 97–98% availability, a 10–20 year LTSA, augmentation in year 7–10, and an annual capacity test under IEC 62933.

Cell supplier volume references

For volumes above 500 MWh we work exclusively with cell manufacturers shipping over 50 GWh per year. We typically split the volume between two manufacturers across separate blocks to limit schedule risk.
